Bert Serrano grew up in Norwalk, CT beginning his music education in elementary school, learning to play a variety of instruments from woodwind to percussion and gained an interest in color guard in high school.  From there he began his color guard marching career with Suburbanettes and Emerald Marquis winterguards as well as The Cadets drum corps.  He went on to teach a host of local bands, drum corps and winterguards beginning in 1994 and has continued to stay active directing, designing, instructing and consulting with several competitive color guards throughout Connecticut.
His expertise includes teaching beginning to advanced skills in flag, rifle, sabre, dance and staging. His choreography highlights his performers’ strengths while showcasing the overall visual impact of all aspects of the routine. All while fostering a nurturing, growth-oriented environment for the performers. Color guard has been a transformative and enriching part of his life, and he lives by the philosophy of passing this experience on to all of his students.  Color guard is more than just performance art, it is an opportunity for personal growth, teamwork and personal expression.  The activity gives all participants (performers and staff) and opportunity to push their creative boundaries, achieve goals and build confidence while engaging in an artform that deepens a passion for the arts.
Bert is looking forward to continuing his journey with color guard, by immersing himself into the world of judging. He is looking forward to supporting the growth of the activity and a new generation of students as they adventure into the world of color guard.
Bert has been involved with the following groups:
  • Trumbull High School
  • Norwalk High School
  • Cheshire High School
  • Sacred Heart University
