Jeffrey Smith has been involved in the marching arts for over forty years as a visual designer, musical arranger, director, show coordinator, caption head, instructor, and judge. He is the Judge Coordinator for the Musical Arts Conference.


Jeff earned a Bachelor of Science in Music Education (1975) and Master of Science in Music Education (1982) from Western Connecticut State University and earned numerous additional post-graduate credits.


Jeff taught band instrumental music for thirty-five years at Ponus Ridge Middle School (1975-1977), Brien McMahon High School (1977-1982), and Norwalk High School (1982-2010). He served as Music and Fine Arts Department Chairperson at Norwalk High School (1986 to 2011). At Western Connecticut State University (2005-2012) he taught Symphonic Band, Marching Visual Design, Secondary Methods, and supervised student teachers. He is the visual designer/instructor for the University of New Hampshire (UNH) Wildcat Marching Band and designs for high school bands in Connecticut, New Hampshire and Maine and previously the Hawthorne Caballeros and Connecticut Hurricanes Drum and Bugle Corps.


Jeff adjudicates for Drum Corps Associates, Musical Arts Conference, Maine Band Directors Association and Massachusetts Judges Association. He has been a clinician for Cavalcade of Bands, Connecticut Music Educators Association, Eastern Marching Band Association, and Musical Arts Conference on the Visual Musicality and Music General Effect captions.


Jeff performs on clarinet with the Strafford Wind Symphony in Rochester, New Hampshire and is their music arranger and assistant conductor. He regularly performs on clarinet, bass clarinet and saxophones in numerous area New Hampshire pit orchestras and subs for the Portsmouth Symphony Orchestra.


He resides with his wife, Diane in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire.
